How might you build on the cultural capital of the students in your classroom to design meaningful, arts-integrated learning?

Welcome to an introductory course on integrating culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogies with arts education. This course was built on 2 basic principles:

Culture and multilingualism are assets
Arts education is a critical element of powerful learning

This course was developed to help educators make connections between culturally and linguistically responsive teaching and arts education. It is not, however, a complete course on how to be more culturally responsive. If you are interested in a more in-depth look at cultural responsiveness, consider enrolling in our SCCOE course entitled Culturally Responsive Pedagogies where you will be guided through learning around identity, building stronger student and family relationships, looking at classroom curriculum and materials, and designing culturally responsive pedagogies.

Course Logistics:

Course Runs: June 15, 2024 to November 30, 2024

Anticipated Time Commitment: 8-10 hours

Audience: TK-12 Educators, TOSAs, Instructional Coaches, and Site/District Administrators

Due Dates: All assignments are set with a calendar due date of November 30, 2024. Participants are welcome to work at a pace that suits their learning needs.

Graduate Units: This course qualifies for up to one (1) graduate-level semester unit. Units are offered through University of the Pacific at a cost set by UoP ($50/unit).
