Using Technology-Rich Pedagogies to Inspire Learning

Course Description:

How can students develop higher order thinking skills through the integration of technology?

Have you ever been to a professional learning opportunity and came away excited to use the new strategy in your classroom the next day? Often it’s that way with technology, and just as often the tool might not be the most appropriate one for the lesson being taught. Thinking about how content knowledge and technology come together to create engaging, authentic student learning opportunities takes time and careful planning.

This online course will introduce educators to four pedagogical frameworks that integrate content with technology: Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, T3, and TPACK. The approaches, although different, provide educators with best practices that support and sustain the use of technology in the classroom.

This online course provides you with "why" each approach supports sound pedagogy in your learning environment, opportunities to explore the strategies and associated technology tools, and a chance to demonstrate your competency using different applications of your choice. You will also have an opportunity to delve deeper into classroom implementation.

Course Logistics:

Course Runs: June 15, 2024 to May 31, 2026

Anticipated Time Commitment: 12-16 hours

Audience: TK-12 Educators, TOSAs, Instructional Coaches, and Site/District Administrators

Due Dates: All assignments are set with a calendar due date of May 31, 2026. Participants are welcome to work at a pace that suits their learning needs.

Graduate Units: This course qualifies for one (1) graduate-level semester unit. Units are offered through University of the Pacific at a cost set by UoP ($50/unit).
